Generation Facility - Artumas Gas and Power

This four year contract involves the construction supervision, commissioning and operations management of an 18MW reciprocating engine generation facility in Mtwara, Tanzania. The project is part of a larger Mtwara Energy Project (MEP) being developed by Artumas Group of Calgary, Canada. MEP services encompass the exploration and extraction of natural gas from the Mnazi Bay gas field, construction of approximately 22 km of pipeline and receiving facility in Mtwara, construction and operation of a 12 MW natural gas fired generation facility in Mtwara, and supply of electricity to Umoja Light Company for delivery to end users.

MHI has provided construction supervision services for the construction of the gas fired generating station, which was commissioned in December 2006. During construction, MHI recruited and trained 30 operation and maintenance staff from local resources, and established the operating and maintenance procedures for the plant, as well as performance measurement and monitoring.

MHI has also completed the generation expansion plan to expand the facility to 50MW, a requirement to meet the projected load growth within the area. In 2010, MHI began managing the $30M capital works project.
