Power System Simulation & Modelling Training
The Regional Power Trade Project requested MHI to provide a five day Power Systems Simulation/Analysis training workshop for Power Technical Committee (PTC) members drawn from power utilities and ministries in charge of electricity in the NBI member countries. The first three sections provided the attendees with an overview on power system transmission, planning criteria, emerging technologies, different simulation techniques and tools, etc. Section 4 covered detailed planning studies and applications. The training focused on power system simulation techniques, device modeling, simulation tools, and especially analytical skills and competency enhancement of the attendee in the interpretation of engineering reports. Typical simulation tools used for case demonstrations consisted of PSS/E, PSCAD and PROMOD IV. The fifth Section consisted of training on the North American MISO Power Market – Background and Structure. It covered the following topics
- Market overview
- Supply and demand
- Spot and bilateral markets, role of RTOs
- Day-ahead and real-time markets
- Locational marginal pricing
- Congestion and financial transmission rights
- Market power and mitigation
- Regulatory structures and legislative issues
- Canada - National Energy Board and Provincial utility boards
