Southern Africa Power Pool Interconnected Operations and Power Pool Operations Training
At the request of the electrical power systems in the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP) and the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), MHI undertook to fund training specific to interconnected power system operations for the utilities in the region.
MHI provided workshops focused on the following topics:
- The operating and technical aspects of adopting distributed frequency control for interconnected operations.
- The primary operating and engineering aspects of interconnected generation control and the rules, and standards for operations.
- Examined a comprehensive and consistent set of performance goals, practices, and standards that apply to base level operations in a power pool setting.
Training included the basic policies and guidelines which specify the requirements for achieving interconnected policies and for monitoring conformance to those policies. The workshop also discussed interchange scheduling regimes, monitoring, billings, implementation, and use of the transmission system.
